Colorado Sports Chiropractor

colorado sports chiropractor of the yearBeing a Colorado sports chiropractor is the best. It’s a year-round affair.

Colorado is perpetually regarded as one of the healthiest states in the union. One of the biggest reasons, I believe, is due to the high participatory level of outdoor activities and sports. (Which is why I chose to make Colorado my home)

A few years ago I was given the honor of being Colorado’s Sports Chiropractor of the Year by the Colorado Chiropractic Association and CEPA’s (The chiropractic association for the Care of Elite and Professional Athlete’s) National Chiropractor of the Year. (blush, blush)

But you may not even be aware that a sports chiropractor can play an important role in the management and treatment of not only your injuries but your ability to perform and excel in your sport- whether it’s on a team or for you individually.

Here are some of the top athletes in the world explaining why they include chiropractic care in their sports medicine routine.

In the video below, you’ll see my good friend and sports chiropractic mentor Nick Athens taking care of the San Francisco 49ers. (This is where I worked before moving my sports injury clinic to Colorado) Above is Joe Montana after his treatment form me here in Denver at Mile High Stadium.

Chiropractic Sports Injury Clinic- How Long Should You Ice?

Sports-injury-clinicDO NOT LEAVE ICE ON TOO LONG after an injury!

Listen to this story…

Researchers at the Dept. of Accident and Emergency Medicine at Southern General Hospital in Glasgow and Accident and Emergency Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock, Scotland, made news of a case of a P.E. teacher who used a bag of frozen potatoes to get rid of pain in her foot. She let the bag sit on her foot for at least 40 minutes and the pain actually went away… temporarily! The report says the foot became discolored and the pain returned- with a vengeance. The woman lost feeling in a few of her toes. She was diagnosed with frostbite, then underwent surgery to treat the permanent nerve damage in two of her toes.

Maybe you’ve heard that after an acute injury, it’s best to ice the area for at least 20 minutes at a time. Maybe you did it for the same reasons as her.  It’s possible you’ve also heard that icing reduces inflammation.

It can.

But do you know why?

Don’t take my word for it, let’s  investigate the “20 minutes concept.” I want you to do a little experiment.

Only Dead Fish Swim Downstream

I’m a big fan of milking the magic out of everyday life- not really following the ’someday when things are just right’ philosophy.

It’s a beautiful winter day here in Colorado. In reality, it’s the only winter day.

Let me tell you a quick story of what just happened in my the clinic. I think you’ll appreciate it.

A father who’s been bringing his teenage son in for sports medicine care inquired about what it would take for his son to be a chiropractor. (His son achieved some pretty cool results :) )

He said the possibility of doing what I do, as a career, piqued his son’s interest. He winked at me and said, ‘That hasn’t really happened before.’ (Fair enough for a 14 year old. I didn’t find my calling until I was 27.)

Of all the rewarding aspects of my job, when this happens I feel like I’ve made a difference in someone’s life. Even if it’s just temporary and something important was etched in his mind.

Over the years I’ve had a handful of patients who’ve had a great experience in the office then one thing leads to another and…

AHA! A moment of inspiration occurs.

The same thing happened to me. And many others in my profession for that matter. In fact, it seems ubiquitous.

It’s truly humbling and heartwarming when it happens but somehow today seemed special.

“It’s a tough profession in a lot of ways,” I said to them both. “You’re always the underdog because it’s not mainstream medicine. You’re usually perceived as not being a real doctor.”

The father looked at me and said, “You got my kid back on the ice in 4 days- that’s real enough for me.”

How cool is that?

His son was injured to the point where he was in a lot of pain and could no longer even practice.

Quick Back Pain Relief Machine

atm2

How can I get quick back pain relief? The million dollar question.

Most of the time mother nature just doesn’t comply with that request.

But…she can be persuaded!

The art and skill of being a sports chiropractor in Denver demands that I continue to strive for better ways to help people get back to their sport or everyday activities as soon as they safely can.

I want to introduce to you a great machine that you’ve probably never heard about or seen before that I use. Many times I’ve been able to find the right combination for people in pain to produce minor miracles.
